The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei South, Ernest Adomako, in collaboration with the Ga Mantse Foundation, has launched the Okaikwei South Public Schools Renovation and Upgrade project to change the face of public school education within the constituency.
Estimated to cost GH¢79.5 million, the project is designed to improve teaching and learning conditions for over 8,000 learners and 350 teachers across 20 public schools within the constituency.
The project would include painting and beautification of school buildings, fencing school compounds, lawn establishment and landscaping, replacement of old and broken furniture and the provision of well-equipped libraries and ICT centres.
The initiative would also provide motivational packages for teachers, as well as introduce agriculture experimental activities such as gardening and livestock rearing to equip students with practical skills to appreciate agriculture.

Renovation of schools
The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu and Mr Adomako jointly cut the sod to start the project in Accra last Monday.
Mr Adomako said the first phase of the project would be undertaken at the Bishop School at Bubuashie.
He said it would be financed from his personal funds, with assistance from the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II.
“We want to use the Bishop School as an example and solicit funds from corporate institutions, donor agencies and individuals to undertake the project for 19 other schools,” he said.
He pledged to continue working to expand opportunities for students, improve teacher welfare and ensure that education in the constituency met global standards.
This initiative is very big and I cannot do it alone. To truly succeed, this must be a collective effort. I call on community leaders, parents, corporate organisations, NGOs and well-meaning individuals to join hands with us,” he said.
He urged constituents to support the project as they would be making Okaikwei South a model constituency for public education in the country.
To the students, he urged them to take advantage of the improvement and study hard.
School upgrade
The Ga Mantse said the upgrading of the school would be a focus for the Greater Accra Region and the whole of the country.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru emphasised the importance of training a child and said the initiative by Mr Adomako was a worthy cause.
He expressed his commitment to work collaboratively to put school environments in the constituency into proper form to allow students in public schools to learn in a comfortable environment and to be able to produce the needed results to be competitive both locally and internationally.
Mr Iddrisu stressed the importance of investing in education and commended Mr Adomako for the initiative to improve the environment in public schools.
The minister also mentioned that the government would this year complete a project at the Cable and Wireless Primary school at Bubuashie which was started under former President John Evans Atta Mills’ government.
Additionally, he said a new contract would be awarded to construct a state-of-the-art school at Bubuashie.
