UK preferred destination for Ghanaian students — British Council
The United Kingdom has been identified as a preferred destination for most Ghanaian students who study abroad.
The Exams Director for the West Cluster at the British Council, Joyce Oduro, who announced this, attributed it to the quality of training and the kind of support provided to students who travel to the UK from across the globe.
Madam Oduro announced this at this year’s edition of the British Council UK Universities Open Day in Accra, which was attended by senior high school students, university students, working professionals, parents and guardians.
Background
The UK Universities Open Day is a public event hosted by The British Council.
It is an opportunity for students, parents and professionals to meet representatives from UK universities, explore course options, understand application processes, learn about scholarships, and get clarity on living and studying in the UK.
On hand were representatives from 15 universities, including Aston University, Anglia Ruskin University, the University of East Anglia, London Metropolitan, and Newcastle, among others, to interact with prospective students.
Madam Oduro explained that Ghana had a dynamic young population, and meaningful access to quality education and skills training was central to unlocking their potential.
The Director indicated that by promoting educational opportunities, the British Council helped young Ghanaians to gain the relevant skills, networks, and confidence they needed to succeed both locally and globally.
“Simply put, when Ghana’s learners and educators succeed, the benefits ripple far beyond classrooms - into communities, and the economy as a whole,” Madam Oduro added.
Talents and ambition
The Country Director for the British Council, Nii Doodo Dodoo, said, “At the British Council, we believe Ghana’s young people have the talent and ambition to make a global impact.”

He stated that the event reflected their continued commitment to strengthening educational partnerships and expanding access to world-class education for students in Ghana and across the region.
Nii Dodoo added that the UK remained one of the most sought-after study destinations globally, renowned not only for academic excellence but for innovation, research impact, diversity and strong graduates' employability outcomes.
The Country Director stated that they believed that education transformed lives and society, adding that through such fairs, they aimed at opening doors to global opportunities and empowering young people to achieve their full potential.
Presentations were made by representatives of IELTS and Chevening scholarship to educate the participants on the various opportunities available to them as they began their attempt to pursue their studies in the UK.
