Managing Director of Eswatini Bank speaks at UDS African Leadership Lecture Series today

All is set for the 7th African Leadership Lecture Series of the University for Development Studies (UDS), scheduled to take place today in Tamale.

This year’s keynote speaker is Nozizwe Mulela, the Managing Director of the Eswatini Bank in the Kingdom of Eswatini and wife of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini of the Zulu Nation in South Africa.

She is expected to deliver a lecture on the theme: “Redefining Leadership for Africa's Future: Ethics and Transformation.”

The event is expected to draw dignitaries, academics, students, traditional leaders, and members of the public from across the region.

Significant moment

At a press conference in Tamale yesterday, the Vice-Chancellor of UDS, Professor Seidu Al-Hassan, expressed the University’s excitement about hosting such a high-profile speaker.

He described the upcoming lecture as a significant moment in the history of the series, noting that Nozizwe Mulela will be the first woman to deliver the UDS African Leadership Lecture since its inception in 2016.

Professor Al-Hassan said the annual lecture series has become a prestigious platform where notable African leaders share transformative ideas on leadership, development, and the future of the continent.

Past speakers include former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, who inaugurated the lecture series in 2016.

He added that UDS continues to stand at the forefront of promoting African-centred discourse on leadership and social progress.

Ethical leadership

In brief remarks shared earlier, Queen Mulela said she was honoured to be part of the event and looked forward to engaging with young people on the importance of ethical leadership.

“Our young people are our future. Sometimes they seem a bit lost, so I saw this invitation as an opportunity to speak to them and hopefully inspire their path forward,” she said.

She reiterated her advocacy for education as a cornerstone for development and called for deeper collaboration across the continent to nurture the next generation of African leaders.
