NSMQ 2024: Reigning champions PRESEC kicked out by Mfantsipim School for grand finale with Augusco, KETA SHTS

St Augustine's College won the last semi final of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) to qualify for the grand finale with Mfantsipim School and Keta Senior High Technical School.

Augusco ended the contest in the semi final with 52 points against that of Ghana National College's 49 points and Wesley Girls' High School's 37 points.

In a contest of two giants, Mfantsipim School, triumphed over eight time winners and reigning champions Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) at the semi final stage to book a place in the grand finale of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Mfantsipim School used a tie-breaker answer to send the NSMQ "kings" home, with 56 points leaving PRESEC with 53 points and shattering their dreams of proceeding to the grand finale.

Osei Tutu Senior High only managed 27 points at the end of the contest.

The tension throughout the competition was high, as each school fought hard to beat competitors with speed and accuracy of answers in a bid to claim victory and inch closer to the coveted title.

The audience were also on tentahooks rooting for their various schools.

It was Mfantsipim which took a slim lead through the competition with PRESEC closely following.

The last round was particularly tensed with a head to head match leading to Mfantsipim and PRESEC ending the contest with a tie.

Mfantsipim was the second time lucky with a tie breaker with the first won with Prempeh College.

Mfantsipim School is hopeful of winning the coveted quiz crown after last winning it in 2014.

Both schools showcased remarkable skill and intellect, ending the contest with 53 points each, forcing a tie.

Mfantsipim reacted swiftly, delivering the correct answer and securing their lead with a final score of 56 points.

In the other semi final, Keta Senior High Technical School secured a spot in the grand finale by knocking out Koforidua SHTS and Tamale SHS,

The first contest of the day proved to be an fierce battle, but it was Keta SHTS that put up a spirited performance to beat Koforidua SHTS who had 27 points with Tamale SHS bagging 24 points.
