The Minister also inaugurated a five member Community LEAP Implementation Committee (CLIC) in all the beneficiary communities in all the districts to see to the operations of the programme in their respective areas.

The committee would see to the registration of potential beneficiaries in their communities out of which some would be selected to benefit from the programme.

Nana Oye Lithur told the potential beneficiaries that LEAP was an important social intervention programme introduced by government to cater for the needs of orphans, people with disabilities as well as the aged who are above 65 years.

According to her, government thought it wise to introduce the programme to financially support, especially, the vulnerable in the society to lead dignified lives.

She noted that government was committed towards expanding the programme to cover more beneficiaries and added that the beneficiaries would also be registered freely with the National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) to enable them to have access to proper medical care.

The Gender Minister disclosed that the monthly allowance to beneficiaries had been increased from GH¢25 per a household to GH¢44 per month in a bid to cushion the beneficiaries to properly take care of some of their basic needs.

Advice to implementation committees

She advised the various CLIC committees against being discriminatory in the selection of the potential beneficiaries in order to ensure that the right people were selected.

She explained that though their work was voluntary, they had been carefully chosen to support the ministry to expand the programme to their respective areas.

Advice to parents

She advised parents who would benefit from the programme to enroll their wards in school so that such children would have a better future.

She cautioned that beneficiary parents who fail to enroll their children in school when identified would no longer benefit from the programme.
