2 MPs, judge attacked by armed robbers
Two Members of Parliament (MPs) and a high court judge have allegedly been attacked in separate robbery attacks at their residences in Accra.
They are the National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP for Amasaman, Mr Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea; the NDC MP for North Dayi, Mr George Loh, and the High Court Judge, Mr Richard Adjei Frimpong.
The three incidents happened at dawn last Saturday at different locations in the national capital.
No arrest has been made so far.
Attacks
While Mr Loh was attacked at his residence at Adjiringanor, near Madina, while he was asleep, some unknown persons broke into Mr Laryea’s house at New Achimota in his absence and looted the place.
According to Mr Loh, who called the Legon Police, the robbers made away with his laptop and GH¢4,000 meant for the payment of wages of workers on his construction site.
He said although the police arrived after the robbers had left, he escaped unhurt.
In the case of Mr Laryea, the Accra Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs Affia Tenge, said his houseboy, identified only as Tsikata, told the police that he woke up last Sunday morning and detected that the house had been burgled.
She said the houseboy claimed the thieves had accessed the house through an adjoining house.
Mrs Tenge said a burglar proof in one of the windows in the house had been cut and it was suspected that the thieves might have entered the room through the window.
Items stolen from the house, she said, included a 32-inch Samsung TV and two wristwatches.
She said the incident was reported to the Achimota Mile 7 Police, and a team of police personnel had since visited the scene to carry out investigations.
High court judge
The High Court Judge, Mr Frimpong, is also said to have been attacked by robbers at his residence at Abokobi, near Accra.
The robbers made away with his mobile phones, an unspecified amount and some valuables.
Details of the robbery in the judge’s house are not yet known, and no arrest has been made.
