26 arrested over violent Yong chieftaincy dispute
Twenty-six suspects have been arrested in Yong Dakpemayili, a farming community near Tamale in the Northern Region in connection with a chieftaincy dispute in the area.
The 26 suspects include Fuseini Chimsi and Mohammed Chimsi, who are both holding themselves as chief of Yong.
They are to be put before the Tamale Circuit Court Tuesday morning for causing unlawful damage to buildings and rioting with offensive weapons.

The Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Kwabena Otuo Acheampong who briefed the media on the arrest in Tamale said the suspects were arrested on the afternoon of March 30, 2020 at Yong for causing unlawful damage to buildings and rioting with weapons.
He said the suspects included Chimsi Mohammed and Chimsi Fuseini, the two contending parties in the Yong chieftaincy dispute.

One person was alleged to be injured and some houses were torched on Monday morning, March 30, 2020 following clashes between two rival factions in the chieftaincy dispute at Yong near Tamale.
The two factions have been fighting over the Yong skin after one side rejected a successor chief selected by the Dapkemah of Tamale, Naa Fuseini Bawa.
The fight between the two factions erupted on Sunday night, March 29 and continued in the morning of Monday, March 30, 2020 over the construction of a new chief palace in the area.
The police were called in and were able to restore calm in the gun battle between the two feuding factions in the chieftaincy dispute.
