The companies are Dizengoff Ghana, Leader Rubber Company Limited and Ghana Re Insurance Company.

The Managing Director of Dizengoff Ghana, Mr Arie Carmon, presented a cheque for GH¢25,000 and some boxes of fertiliser.

He said Dizengoff Ghana was ever ready to assist the ministry in any way possible.

On behalf of Leader Rubber Company Limited, the Managing Director, Mr Kwaku Owusu, presented 60 pairs of Wellington boots.

He said the boots were locally made and would assist farmers in their activities.

The Assistant Manager of Corporate Affairs, Ghana Reinsurance, Mrs Laura Asare, also presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 to support the event as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to support the development of agriculture in Ghana.

Acceptance

A Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture in charge of Crops, Dr Ahmed Yakubu Alhassan, who received the donations, thanked the donors for their kindness.

He said farmers played a vital role in the lives of Ghanaians and as such they had to be adequately resourced and motivated.

He urged other corporate institutions to also lend their support to the organisation of the National Farmers Day celebration.

Dr Alhassan later told the Daily Graphic in an interview that this year’s Farmers Day celebration would be different.

“Everything related to this year’s celebration will start and end in the Western Region,” he said.

He said the region had a lot to offer and because it had an oil industry, it would be fit for the occasion, instead of the usual programme of bringing the award winning farmers to the capital, Accra.
