Mariama Abu was found dead under the tree on her farm more than an hour after the rainstorm had hit the Upper West Regional capital in the mid-morning.

The police said Madam Abu had gone to her farm at Jonga in Wa earlier in the day before the rainstorm hit the town, ripping off the roofs of some buildings, including one of the pavilions of the Jubilee Park in Wa.

The acting Public Relations Officer of the Upper West Regional police command, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Edmund Nyamekye, told the Daily Graphic that the police had a distress call from Mr Danbile Ibrahim, the Assembly Member for the Jonga Electoral Area in the Wa Municipality, that  Madam Abu had been trapped by a tree.

He said assisted by the youth in the community, they managed to lift the tree off Madam Abu but she was pronounced dead on arrival at the Wa Regional Hospital and had since been buried in accordance with Islamic tradition.

ASP Nyamekye said apparently, Madam Abu had taken refuge under the tree during the storm but unfortunately, it fell because of the force of the storm. She had gone to the farm alone.
