9,342 Qualified nurses to begin national service this year

About 9,342 nurses who passed their licensing examination, organised by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), will begin their mandatory national service on April 1 this year.

In line with that, the National Service Scheme (NSS) has released pin codes for the eligible nurses to register online for the posting to be done in March.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Accra last Wednesday, the acting Executive Director of the scheme, Mr Ussif Mustapha, said the eligible nurses were required to pay GH¢40 at any Agricultural Development Bank (adb) branch to be able to register.

“All eligible nurses are requested to log on to the NSS website to access their pin codes together with their index numbers from the NMC and proceed to any branch of adb to make payments of GH¢40 to activate the enrolment process.

“We urge all eligible nurses to ensure that they personally complete the online enrolment process before Friday, March 16, 2018,” he added.

2018/19 postings

Mr Mustapha further stated that the NSS was collecting master lists of final year students from approved tertiary institutions to ensure that the general postings for the 2018/19 service year were done without the usual challenges.

He, therefore, advised tertiary institutions and prospective service personnel to be diligent in providing the right data and information that would facilitate their postings this year.

According to him, the deployment of the online enrolment and registration system was a major step towards the removal of obstacles in the process.

Recall

The NSS recently rolled out an online portal that seeks to improve service delivery and address the challenges associated with the manual registration system.

Prospective service personnel for the 2018/19 service year are required to enroll onto the scheme and also go through registration processes using the online means.

The new system is a paradigm shift from the previous one where the enrolment and registration processes were done manually, creating chaotic scenes at various registration centres.
