Abeka Lapaz: Fire destroys shop
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Sunday successfully contained a fire outbreak at Abeka Lapaz in Accra, salvaging 13 adjoining shops from destruction.
The fire started from a shop situated on top of floor of a single-storey structure opposite the Lapaz Ecobank Branch.
The Fire Service said it received the distress call at 2:25 pm, with the first response team from the Abelemkpe Fire Station, led by ADO I Samuel Edziah, arriving promptly at 2:35 pm.
In a statement, the GNFS reported that the fire destroyed items including towels, curtains, curtain rods, and bedsheets stored within the affected shop.
Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control by 3:03 pm, with final extinguishing efforts concluding at 4:35pm.
"Firefighters successfully salvaged 13 adjoining shops from the blaze, preventing further damage," the statement read.
The GNFS also disclosed that the shop owner collapsed upon witnessing her shop engulfed in flames and was taken to the Lapaz Community Hospital. She was revived before the fire crew departed the scene.
No other injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
