Ablekuma: Police arrest woman for pouring acid on ex-lover
A 30-year-old woman who allegedly poured some substance suspected to be acid on her taxi driver ex-boyfriend has been arrested by the Tesano Divisional Police Command.
Mavis Nkrumah, unemployed, who attempted fleeing Ghana but was arrested, had gone to visit her ex-lover to confirm the breakup, when she poured the substance on Gideon Frimpong.
Superintendent of Police Julianna Obeng, Head of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command's Public Affairs Unit, said these in a news brief.
"The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested Mavis Nkrumah, a 30-year-old woman, for allegedly pouring a liquid substance suspected to be acid on her ex-boyfriend at Ablekuma Fan Milk, a suburb of Accra."
Superintendent Obeng said preliminary investigation suggested that on the night of the attack, May 28, 2025, Mavis appeared unannounced at the victim's residence at approximately 0100 hours.
She said the victim, Frimpong, a 29-year-old taxi driver, engaged her in a brief conversation, during which Mavis asked him to drive her home, thus Frimpong agreed and offered to take her.
"On reaching a section of the road, Frimpong requested Mavis to alight since the road ahead was bumpy and rough," the brief said.
Superintendent Obeng said Mavis questioned him about their relationship, and after the third confirmation of their breakup, she got out and through the driver's side of the car, poured the substance suspected to be acid on him.
"The victim, Frimpong, was identified by a group of people and subsequently rushed to the hospital, where he was treated for injuries sustained at the back, neck, among other parts of the body and he has since been discharged."
She said, Mavis, the Suspect, who fled the scene after the incident and attempted to bolt into a neighbouring country, was arrested on June 3, 2025, by the Police and is currently in custody.
"The Accra Regional Police Command cautions the public to seek lawful and peaceful means of resolving issues. Acts of violence are criminal and will be dealt with by the law." Superintendent Obeng said.
"The Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and urges all to report suspicious or harmful behaviour promptly to the nearest police station."
