
Police intercept coins and GH¢1 notes totaling over GH¢1million stashed in fertiliser bags on commercial vehicle
The Volta Regional Police Command has intercepted a large sum of money, which was in fertilizer bags, in a commercial vehicle en route to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
The police intercepted the money made up of GH¢1 notes and coins, totaling GH¢1,021,700, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, around 4:45 pm during a routine snap check near Juapong in the Volta Region.
The police in a statement issued on Thursday [June 5, 2025] by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit in the Volta Region, indicated that the officers discovered 68 fertiliser bags filled with GH¢1 notes and coins, in a Ford Transit Bus which was heading towards Kumasi according to the driver.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Edward Ansah, reportedly told investigators he had been contracted by an unnamed individual in Kumasi to transport the money from Ho in the Volta Region to the Ashanti capital.
The suspect is currently in police custody and assisting with investigations.
