Police seize arms and excavators in anti-galamsey operation at Mpasaaso
The Mankranso District Police Command, in collaboration with the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, has conducted a joint anti-galamsey operation to curb illegal mining activities in Mpasaaso and Achiase.
According to a police statement, several illegal miners fled the site upon sighting the security team, abandoning their tools and equipment in the process.
A search of the area led to the seizure of one CAL 9mm pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition, four pump-action guns, 12 live BB cartridges, and five excavators.
The impounded excavators are currently secured at the Assembly’s premises, while the firearms and ammunition have been taken into police custody at Mankranso for further investigation.
The police have urged the public to assist law enforcement by providing credible information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of individuals engaged in illegal mining.
