Aburi Mountain to be declared a 'green zone'

The Akuapim South District Assembly in the Eastern Region has said plans are underway to declare the Aburi Mountain a green zone and strictly enforce regulations to protect the area.

Following recent rock fall incident recorded at the Ayi Mensah Aburi road which ended up to a temporary closure due to some slope failures and rock falls on that section of the road.

In an interview on Citi FM today October 31, the planning officer for the assembly James Abugre said by next month the assembly will put in modalities for the area to be declared a green zone.

“we are going to declare the place a green zone area, we have taken that decision to declare it and so we are now putting in modalities, the documents in place to engage everybody who owns land or who buys land along that stretch would not be allowed to put up any structure. ”

“By next month the assembly will act on that you may own land there that is not our interest, we are to regulate whatever you put there and we are going to enforce that,” he added.
