VIDEO: Driver confirmed dead in presidential convoy accident on Accra-Kumasi highway
A driver has been confirmed dead in Sunday's presidential convoy accident, which happened on the Bunso - Akyem Asafo stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway.
Several vehicles belonging to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's convoy were involved in the fatal accident.

The deceased driver has been named as Kwesi Atta.
A video of one of the accident vehicles has been shared on social media [VIDEO ATTACHED BELOW].
The accident reportedly happened near the Bunso junction in the Eastern Region.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is safe and unharmed, as he travelled to Accra via military aircraft.
A statement issued Sunday evening [May 19, 2024], signed by Eugene Arhin, the Director of Communications at the Presidency, confirming the accident said, "the unfortunate incident occurred whilst the convoy was on its way back from Kumasi, after accompanying the President to Kumasi for a series of events this weekend."
It added that several close protection and police officers from President Akufo-Addo's security detail have sustained varying degrees of injuries, and received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.

"The injured persons are currently being evacuated to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further treatment and observation. Several vehicles in the convoy have also been completely wrecked as a result of the accident," the statement added.

Tragically, one of the drivers, Mr. Kwesi Atta, has lost his life.
Additionally, several close protection and police officers from the President's security detail have sustained varying degrees of injuries, and received initial treatment at the Suhum Government Hospital.

The injured persons are currently being evacuated to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for further treatment and observation. Several vehicles in the convoy have also been completely wrecked as a result of the accident.
Fortunately, the President is safe and unharmed, as he travelled to Accra via military aircraft.
