Afram Plains Ferry relocated to Yeji
The Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr Daniel Titus-Glover, has explained that the ferry at Afram Plains in the Eastern Region has been relocated to Yeji in the Brong Ahafo region following the closure of the Yapei and Buipe bridges.
According to him, the captain of the ferry indicated that it would be returned to Afram Plains after a few hours.
Some residents of Afram Plains have complained about the decision of the Volta River Transport to send the ferry to Yeji.
The residents, who have vowed to resist the move, maintain the ferry is their only means of transportation through the Agordeke-Kpando-Torkor route.
It took the intervention of the police to stop scores of angry youth who had massed up at the offices of the Volta River Transport, from locking out officials.
But speaking in a radio interview with Accra FM, Mr Titus-Glover said : "after a meeting with authorities of the Volta Lake an agreement was reached that the ferry should be sent to Yeji and Buipe to help the situation there.
“The captain assured us that the ferry will spend just eight hours there and be brought back to Afram plains.”
