The beneficiary schools are Agona Abodom Anglican and Catholic basic schools, Bobikuma Anglican School, Agona Kwaman Methodist and Agona Nkum Presbyterian basic schools.

The projects were constructed with funds solicited by the MP towards improving sanitation in schools in the area.

Inauguration

At separate ceremonies to hand over the projects to the beneficiary schools, Mr Obeng-Inkoom said statistics showed that about 19 basic schools in the municipality had no sanitation facilities, which resulted in open defecation on the schools’ compounds.

He noted that in the absence of such facilities, most of the pupils had to go home to use the ones there, which affected teaching and learning, and indicated that he would ensure that the rest of the schools benefited from the project to improve education in the area.

He urged members of communities in the area to own government projects in their various localities to prolong their lifespan.

According to him, government was overstretched financially and it was incumbent upon the people to protect government projects from destruction.

 Accommodation for teachers

The Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West, Mr Samuel Oppong, pointed out that the assembly had started constructing accommodation facilities for teachers in remote areas to attract teachers to such areas.

He explained that the housing project for teachers was intended to put a stop to the situation where teachers had to commute from far places to schools, stressing that the assembly would effectively partner the directorate of education to improve on the academic performance of the pupils.

The Agona West Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service, Mr Stephen Amoah, commended the MP and the assembly for their interventions, and expressed optimism that the use of the facilities would stop open defecation in the schools and reduce truancy among the pupils.
