Akuapems urged to maintain peaceful nature as November elections draw near

The Presiding Member (PM) of the Akuapem North Municipal Assembly (ANMA) and independent parliamentary candidate for the Akropong Constituency, Mr Asiedu Offei, has made a passionate appeal to assembly members in the municipality to prevail on members of their communities not to do anything that would disturb the peace in the area before, during and after the November elections.

According to him, a move in that direction would prevent chaos and at the same time accelerate development in the municipality.

He said as political campaigns heated up, it became the responsibility of those on the campaign trail to put aside political, ethnic and tribal considerations and rather put out messages that promoted peace in the area.

Mr Offei gave the advice when he addressed a meeting of the assembly at Akropong last Thursday.

“We need peace before, during and after the general election in our communities because peace is the only way to accelerate development and improve the living standards of the people.

Peace in diversity

“Therefore, as assembly members, it is your responsibility to put aside political, ethnic and tribal considerations and promote peace in diversity,” Mr Asiedu said.

He urged the assembly members to be proactive by equipping themselves with the requisite knowledge to serve their communities well.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Okere Constituency, which is the other constituency in the Akuapem area, Mr Dan Botwe, informed the House about work in Parliament.

He briefed assembly members on modalities required for sourcing funds and how Members of Parliament used such funds in providing social amenities for their constituencies.

The Chief Executive for the Akropong Municipality, Mr George Opare Addo, for his part, said adequate measures had been taken to ensure that residents in the municipality lived in peace.
