Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed his condolences following the tragic deaths of six potential recruits into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), with several others receiving treatment for injuries at the 37 Military Hospital.
The incident occurred on November 12, 2025, during a recruitment exercise at the El Wak Stadium in Accra.
In a post on Facebook, the former President wrote, “I convey to the bereaved families my deep condolences and wish the potential recruits in hospital a rapid recovery from their injuries, and indeed, from the accompanying trauma to all who were at the El Wak Stadium, their parents or guardians and their loved ones. It is my hope that each day will bring you renewed strength.”
The tragic incident was reportedly triggered by a stampede, following an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed the gate at 6:20 a.m., ahead of the scheduled screening.
The nationwide recruitment exercise, which was being conducted simultaneously across various centres, has since been postponed as investigations continue.
