Akufo-Addo visits Senegal, Guinea and Cape Verde this week
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has left Ghana to begin the second phase of his official working visit to countries within the ECOWAS region.
The President who left Accra Monday will be visiting Senegal, Guinea and Cape Verde.
A statement signed and issued by the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Mr Eugene Arhin said the visit will afford President Akufo-Addo the opportunity to introduce himself, as the new Ghanaian leader, formally to the governments and peoples of those countries, explore and deepen bilateral relations with them as well as reiterate Ghana’s commitment to the ECOWAS project.
“He will be accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, MP, and officials of the Presidency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” the statement said.
President Akufo-Addo is expected to return to Ghana on Sunday, May 21, 2017.
“In his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead,” the statement added.
