Akuse-Old Akrade road to be rehabilitated
The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has awarded the rehabilitation of the Akuse-Old Akrade road project to First Sky Limited, a local company, following the reduction in the volume of water in the Volta Lake.
The reduction is affecting the operations of two ferries between Senchi and Old Akrade, both in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region.

The GHA introduced the ferry services to transport people and goods following the closure of the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku.
The 14-km project was awarded on an emergency basis, and it is scheduled to be completed in six months.
The Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Highway Authority ( GHA), Mr Ernest Arthur, stated that the project would cost Gh¢4.5 million.
First Sky Limited is already working on the Trom-Somanya-Odumase-Kpong road and the reconstruction of the Akuse-Old Akrade road comes as a variation to that project.

The Adomi Bridge was closed to traffic on Monday, March 10, this year to make way for a major rehabilitation work on the 56-year-old bridge.
It served as a critical connection between the Greater Accra Region and parts of the Eastern and Volta regions.

It has been seven months since the bridge, expected to be closed for 24 months, was dismantled.
The government secured 12. 9 million Euros from the Bank of Austria to replace the entire bridge but the original design will be maintained.
