Asanko Gold Mines unveils five-year development plan for Amansie
Authorities of Asanko Gold Mines have unveiled a five-year development plan aimed at closing the development gap in the Amansie South and Amansie West districts of the Ashanti Region.
The initiative, spearheaded by Asanko Gold Mine in partnership with local authorities, seeks to address long-standing challenges in infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities in the two mining districts.
Speaking at the launch at Manso Nkwanta, the District Chief Executive for Amansie South, Benjamin Marfo, and his Amansie West counterpart, Prince Manu Morris, both acknowledged that the districts, despite their mineral wealth and significant contribution to national GDP, have lagged behind in terms of development.
They pointed to poor road networks, inadequate healthcare and educational facilities, and limited employment avenues as some of the key issues facing their communities.
The two leaders expressed optimism that the plan would help transform the area and ensure that mining activities translate into tangible benefits for residents.
The development plan focuses on several key areas designed to improve the quality of life in the beneficiary communities.
These include enhancing agriculture and livelihood opportunities, improving access to quality education and healthcare, promoting economic empowerment through entrepreneurship and skills training, and expanding access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
The holistic approach is aimed at addressing the root causes of poverty and underdevelopment, while creating sustainable avenues for growth, particularly for youth and women.
The five-year plan is expected to serve as a blueprint for equitable and sustainable development in Amansie South and Amansie West.
It seeks not only to bridge the gap between resource extraction and local development but also to lay a strong foundation for inclusive prosperity in these underserved mining districts.
The General Manager of Asanko Gold Mine, Ahmed M. Yahaya, outlined the objectives of the plan, emphasizing its focus on community development and the empowerment of local residents.
