Asere celebrates Homowo

The Asere Tsroro Mantse, Nii Quao Donkor II, has asked the youth of the area to explore opportunities that will guarantee them a good future.

He urged them not to exert their energies on unproductive ventures as this was counterproductive and ought to be avoided at all cost.

Nii Donkor stated this in an address to citizens of the area during the celebration of Homowo last Tuesday.

Homowo in Asere

The Asere people of Ga-Mashie has a unique way of celebrating the Homowo Festival.

After the entire Ga-Mashie have celebrated Homowo on the second Saturday in August, the people of Asere go a step further to have their own unique celebration on the following Tuesday.

On that day, the chief sprinkles the traditional food, ‘kpoikpoi’, in selected parts of the community after which the people, mainly children and the underprivileged, are served with the meal.

For this year’s event at Asere Tsroro, about 200 children and adults were served with the meal by the chief. 

Nii Donkor used the occasion to advise his people to take education seriously because the development of the area hinged on how well educated they were.

Additionally, he urged the youth of Asere to show respect to the elderly.
