Avenor demolition: Victims ask for compensation

Some residents of Avenor in Accra who had their structures demolished at the weekend have demanded for compensation from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

According to them, the AMA did not give them enough notice before the demolition which would have enabled them salvage their personal belongings.

As a result, they claim their personal belongings were destroyed in the demolition exercise by bulldozers hence they want compensation.

The AMA last Saturday extended the demolition exercise in the Accra metropolis to the Avenor area. Structures along the railway line were demolished.

In an interview, one of the affected persons, Frank Boateng said the demolition exercise was a surprise to them.

“I wasn’t here actually, I was out to buy goods, and came on Friday to hear that we should leave here."

He said the exercise started at the Neoplan Station on Friday and they assumed they could use Saturday to pack out.
