British murder suspect asks to be extradited to UK

The British man arrested in Ghana for allegedly killing his girlfriend, an ex-soap opera star and her two children, Simpson Arthur Kent, has submitted himself voluntarily to be sent to the United Kingdom for trial.

This means there would be no need for the court to continue with the processes that would have ordered him to be sent to the UK or otherwise, Accra-based Citi FM reported Tuesday.

According to the report, during a court hearing on Tuesday, Mr kent’s lawyer, Justice Sai, took a thirty minutes break to consult him, after which the lawyer told the court his client wanted the court to waive the extradition processes so he can return to the UK voluntarily.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Merley Wood, reportedly, asked Mr Kent whether he indeed wanted to be extradited, to which he responded, “Yes my Lord that is correct.”

The Judge further asked, “You were not coerced?” He replied, “No”, the Citi FM report noted.

Accordingly, the Judge ruled, asking the Attorney-General to expedite the process of deportation while he is kept in BNI custody, the report added.
