Buduatta residents undergo free NHIS registration

About 800 people in Gomoa Buduatta and its surrounding communities have benefited from a free biometric registration with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The beneficiaries, who were mostly children and the aged, were drawn from Buduatta, Odumase, Odembo, Odembo Nkwanta, Kristo Asafo, Mamfe, Anambra and Bokor.

The exercise, which cost about GH¢6,000, was funded by and former assembly member for the area, Mr Frederick Joe Arthur, who is also a former Presiding Member of the Gomoa East District Assembly.

Objective

In a chat with the Daily Graphic, Mr Arthur said the exercise was to enable the residents in the area to have access to medical care without any huge financial commitments.

He noted that most of the people in the area had not been able to register with the NHIS due to poverty and did not visit the health centre at Buduatta to have access to medical services.

He explained that he, therefore, decided to register the residents with the NHIS so that they could undergo regular check-ups to know their health status.

According to him, the lack of NHIS cards had led most of the residents to stay at home while sick due to their inability to pay for health services, which complicated their health conditions.

Advice

He advised the residents who had not yet registered with the NHIS to do so, since it was an important move to promote good health.

He appealed to benevolent individuals in the area to emulate his example to register more people with the NHIS as part of giving back to society.
