Bui Power adjudged best public sector firm for 2014

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has been adjudged the best Public Sector Firm 2014 for its contribution towards the engineering profession in Ghana.

It was also recognised for ensuring strict local content during the construction of the Bui Generating Power Station at Bui in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The BPA received the award at the maiden Engineering Excellence Awards held at the State Banquet Hall in Accra.

The awards were put together by the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE) to honour engineers and non-engineers who distinguished themselves in the field of engineering this year. 

Mr Jabesh Amissah-Arthur, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the BPA, received the award on behalf of the authority.

Local participation  

The award also recognised BPA for employing about 90 per cent of Ghanaians with specialities in civil, geomatic, material testing and geological engineering.

It was also acknowledged for providing practical training for students from the colleges of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Takoradi Polytechnic.

President’s address 

The President of the GhIE, Mr Magnus Lincoln Quarshie, speaking on the theme, “Design, build and construct; let us think forever”, urged engineers in the country to ensure that their works stood the test of time. 

The Special Guest of Honour for the occasion was Dr Joyce Aryee of the Salt and Light Ministries.
