Businesswoman donates medical equipment to Asene hospital

An Accra-based businesswoman has donated medical equipment worth GH¢100,000 to the newly constructed health centre at Akyem Asene, near Oda, in the Eastern Region.

Mrs Gifty Agyare-Danso, who is the wife of Mr Kwame Danso, the Chief Executive of Memphis Metropolitan Limited, an Accra-based construction firm, presented the equipment at a ceremony at Asene last Wednesday.

The items included a nebuliser, scan machine with accessories and printer, microscope, autoclave machine, suction machine, chemistry analyser, BP apparatus, wheelchairs, delivery equipment, examination lamps, trolleys and kidney dish.

Other items were stabilisers, ward screens, oxygen machines and regulators, hepatitis B equipment, thermometer guns, drip stands, typhoid fever equipment and quantities of plaster.

Mrs Agyare-Danso said she was worried that the modern health centre, said to have cost GH¢700,000 to construct and inaugurated in December 2020, was still not operational due to the lack of essential medical equipment.

She said she contacted the Asene-Manso-Akroso District Health Directorate and collected the list of medical equipment needed to make the facility operational, and subsequently mobilised funds to procure the items.

MP’s address

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr George Aboagye, expressed gratitude to the hospital’s benefactor for complementing the government’s efforts to deliver health care to the people and urged other well-to-do natives of the area to emulate the gesture.

Mr Aboagye urged the chiefs to secure the lands around the health centre in order not to thwart plans to provide the facility with a nurses quarters in the foreseeable future.

The MP advised the people to strictly observe the Covid-19 safety protocols to avoid contracting the deadly disease.

The acting District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr Alex Incoom, gave an assurance that a new classroom block would be constructed for the local Roman Catholic Junior High School whose premises was used for the new health centre.

Other dignitaries at the ceremony were the Asenehene, Nana Karikari Apau; the Gyaasehene of Asene, Nana Amoa Daadom; the Chief of Asene Zongo, Naa Amidu Zakari Babangida; and the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Senam Adikah.
