Check your kitchen! Tasty Tom Tomato Mix recalled after FDA directive

Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, producers of the Tasty Tom range, has announced a voluntary recall of all batches of its Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix in various sizes, following reports of product bloating.

The affected products include the 210g and 400g canned tomato mix, as well as batches of the 380g and 1.05kg pouch packs.

In a statement issued on Friday, August 1, 2025, the company explained that the recall follows a directive from the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), issued in collaboration with National Security, after the regulator received alerts of bloating in some units of the product.

“Our attention has been drawn by the FDA and National Security to some incidents of bloating in Tasty Tom Enriched Tomato Mix pouches and cans (210g and 400g),” the company said. “We have therefore been directed by the regulator to issue this recall, whilst we investigate the root cause of the problem.”

Nutrifoods is urging customers in possession of the affected products to return them to its Tema Office or any of its authorised distributors across the country for a replacement.

The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to its customers and assured the public of its continued commitment to product quality and safety.

“We deeply regret any inconvenience caused to our consumers and trade partners because of this issue and recall,” the statement read. “We at Nutrifoods Ghana Ltd are committed to delivering high-quality products meeting all the required stringent national food safety standards.”

It further noted that the FDA is currently conducting inspections at the company’s facility to verify compliance and support ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the FDA has yet to release an official statement on the outcome of its preliminary investigations into the cause of the bloating.
