She said the country took the right step in establishing the plant to ensure effective  energy generation, which is the bedrock of a country’s development.

Speaking after touring the completed plant, Ms Sun said, “the plant is a magnificent step by Ghana and holds the key to the transformation of the country’s economy.”

The current project, she said, was the beginning of many other forms of cooperation that would come in diversified forms to support the energy sector and added that many Chinese companies had expressed interest in the development of Ghana’s energy sector.

“In the future, I can foresee the expansion of the gas plant, investment in solar power, mini dams and thermal plants, among others,” Ambassador Sun said.

Future cooperation

She said Ghana and China had enjoyed very healthy cooperation that had resulted in strong bilateral relations between the two states.

She said a lot of benefits had resulted from the bilateral relations between the two and listed the construction of the National Theatre, the Ministry of Defence building, Cape Coast Stadium, University of Allied Sciences and Health, Bui Dam and the Atuabo Gas processing Plant, as some of the benefits accruing to Ghana.

Skills transfer

In the area of skills transfer, Ambassador Sun said some Ghanaians were currently undergoing training in China and would return home with skills to take care of the projects in the energy sector.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Gas Company (Ghana Gas), Dr George Sipa-Adja Yankey, said the minimum time for the construction of an infrastructure such as a gas plant, was three years.

He noted with delight that in the case of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant, aside from the delays that were due to some challenges, the project was completed within two years.
