It also urged followers of the two religions to play their part by strengthening and deepening the peaceful co-existence between them to prove to the rest of the world that Ghana was, indeed, a peaceful country.

Courtesy call

The Leader of the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council, Nakoa Nazareth Ansah Jamson, made the commendation yesterday when he led members of the council to pay a courtesy call on Sheikh Sharubutu at his residence at Fadama in Accra.

The council donated assorted food items to Sheikh Sharabutu towards the celebration of this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr. They included 30 bags of rice, 10 cartons of Milo beverage, 10 gallons of cooking oil, 10 cartons of milk and 10 bags of sugar.

Leadership style

Nakoa Jamson, who described the Chief Imam as a beacon of peace, said his leadership style was worthy of emulation, adding, “We are here to wish him and his followers well during this Ramadan period.”

He said it was necessary for Christians and Muslims to pray for peace and uphold the sanctity of life “as the most supreme principle in creation”.

He informed the Chief Imam about an intended campaign by the council to revive nationalism, patriotism and the need for the public to eschew apathy, selfishness and greed.

Sheikh Sharubutu

In his response, Sheikh Sharubutu thanked the spiritual churches for their commendation and support and stressed that it was an example worthy of emulation by all religious groups.

He said he was thankful to God for making Christians and Muslims live together as brothers and sisters in Ghana, thereby making the country a unique place in Africa.

Sheikh Sharubutu said he took inspiration from God, who had created human beings from one source, Adam, and pledged to ensure that the bond between Christians and Muslims  in the country was strengthened.

He said the visit by the leadership of the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council was demonstrative of the kind of love that existed between Christians and Muslims in the country.
