Citizens urged to support leaders to succeed

The District Minister for the Kyebi Presbytery, Rev. Kwadwo Atiemo-Aryeh, has called on Ghanaians to take responsibility for the leaders they elect by consciously supporting them to succeed.

He stressed that if elected leaders failed, the citizens who voted for them must also bear some of that responsibility.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, he said: “When we vote for somebody, we are committing ourselves to their success.

“It is our responsibility to not only vote for them, but to also pray for them and help them succeed and not to sabotage them,” he stated.

Rev. Atiemo-Aryeh granted the interview when he attended the 40th anniversary thanksgiving service of the Nantomah Memorial Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Kanda in Accra.

Lawlessness

He said in some instances, some citizens deliberately sabotaged the growth of the nation through lawlessness.

“Ghana is dying because of lawlessness and the fact that people don’t want to obey the laws; they want to have their own way.

Going into the 2024 elections, Rev. Atiemo-Aryeh urged Ghanaians to vote based on divine guidance, not family affiliations.

"We should pray for the Lord to direct us to vote for people after God's own heart. These are the leaders that, when we vote for them and support them, the country will progress.

“Ghanaians should vote for people not based on family affiliation but they should pray for the Lord to direct them to vote for people after God’s own heart, he said.

40th anniversary

The thanksgiving service winds up a series of activities heralding the 40th anniversary of the church, which held its first Sunday service on June 26, 1983.

The activities include health screening, outreach programme at the prisons, Bible quiz competition, revival, gospel rock show, among others.

The anniversary celebration, which started with a health walk on January 20 this year, was on the theme: “Celebrating 40 years of God’s faithfulness”.

ACP Kofi Sarpong’s Anointed Ministries graced the occasion with melodious songs at the service, which also witnessed the cutting of an anniversary cake.

A former First National Vice-Chairman of the New Patriotic Party and  campaign advisor to the party, Fred Oware, presented GH¢ 40,000 to the church on behalf of  Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Advice

The Clerk of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Dr Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, who described the church as a modern church, touted its tremendous milestones in its existence.

He urged the congregation to help sustain the quality of Christian life through prayer, worship and evangelism.
