CLOGSAG wants civil servants replaced with special assistants reinstated

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has accused some ministers of the Akufo-Addo led administration of dismissing some civil servants to make way for special assistants to occupy their positions.

According to CLOGSAG, the action by those ministers is a violation of procedures within the civil service.

They have therefore given government a two-week ultimatum to recall the dismissed civil servants and have further called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to call those ministers to order.

At a press conference in Accra Monday, the Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Dr Isaac Paul Bampoe-Addo said those ministers have assumed administrative responsibilities and signed letters to civil servants to proceed on leave and have been replaced with special assistants.

“These issues bother on excessive use of political power to obstruct laid-down procedures and processes in appointments and administrative matters. Where some of these civil servants were deemed lucky, they were side-lined by special assistants of these ministers to encumber their positions. The extreme case being the appointment of internal auditors by these ministers. This is a clear violation of procedures in the civil service,” he said.

Dr Bampoe-Addo specifically accused the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta of recruiting staff outside the civil service.

“To forestall these developments, the affected ministers should be called to order; especially the Minister of Finance who has recruited staff outside the civil service to head various divisions within the ministry of finance,” he said.
