CRI Ladies Club gives career guidance to students
The the Ladies Club of the Crops Research Institute (CRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR,) in collaboration with the American Society of Plant Biologists, has organised a sensitisation programme for Science and Home Economic students of the Adawomase Senior High School in the Ashanti Region.

The programme was aimed at educating the students on making the right choice of profession.
Speaking at the opening session, the President of the Club, Mrs Lawrencia D. Acheampong, said the objective of the club was to assist students, especially girls and women, to know the career progressions of science education.
Role models
She said having role models was one of the critical aspects of self-improvement to guide and shape the students for their future development, adding that the programme formed part of the club’s social responsibility to give back to the communities within its operational areas.
Mrs Acheampong stated that over the years, the club had educated students on the relevance of science education. It has also organised breast cancer screening for the women in Fumesua and its environs to promote health care delivery, as well as encouraged the girl-child to pursue science education.
Advantages of science education
Mrs Mavis Akom, a scientist of the Crop Research Institute, encouraged girls to pursue science education to benefit from the numerous advantages in the study of the subject.
She said science and technology education was key to national development and, therefore, stressed the need for the students, especially the girl-child ,to be encouraged to pursue such programmes.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr K. B. Acheampong, who chaired the function, expressed his appreciation to members of the CRI Ladies Club for their efforts to promote science and technology education and serve as role models to students.
