Discount Group provides breakfast to BECE students in Bawku
A Bolgatanga-based ceramic and plumbing retailing company, Discount Group Co. Ltd, has once again continued its annual feeding of students writing the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Bawku enclave.
For the past five years, Discount Group Co. Ltd has been a steadfast supporter of education, ensuring that final year basic school students are well-fed during their crucial BECE preparations.

This noble effort, the Group CEO, Alhaji Awal Ahmed Kariama, says not only aims to alleviate hunger but also underscores the company's commitment to empowering future generations.
He said the initiative provides breakfast to at least 400 to 500 BECE candidates in 10 schools every day for the period within which the students are writing the exams.
The BECE, which started on July 8, this year, will end on July 12, 2024.
For Alhaji Kariama, the company exists not just to add value to peoples living spaces and properties by retailing ceramic tiles and plumbing materials, but also to gives back to improve the quality of the future generations by giving back part of our gains.
"Having come from a poor background and humble beginnings and seen what hunger can do in taking people's dignity away, depriving them of opportunities and leading them astray, I feel a legal and moral obligation to ensure that every BECE Candidate begins their exams on a full stomach, because I have seen and know the value of education in fighting poverty," Alhaji Kariama explained.
For him, "By prioritising education and nourishment, the company has not only impacted individual lives but has also contributed to the broader social and economic development of the Upper East Region."

He said the initiative has become a beacon of hope and inspiration, encouraging other businesses and individuals to contribute to the educational welfare of the youth in Bolgatanga.
Looking ahead, Alhaji Kariama said Discount Group Co. Ltd remains committed to expanding its educational initiatives and enhancing the support provided to Bawku's youth.
