THE Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC), Rt Rev. Prosper Samuel Dzomeku, has admonished Christians in the country to distinguish themselves as ambassadors of Christ and become valuable to society.

He said Christians ought to represent the person of Jesus Christ  in their various fields of endeavour, especially in the face of the gradual decadence of morality in the society, where people embrace all forms of activities that were not beneficial.

Rt Rev Dzomeku said  GEC was passionate about raising young leaders who would contribute positively to the development of the country.

Rt Rev Dzomeku was speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic at GEC's mini-synod held yesterday at the GEC Adonai Temple in Madina, Accra, on the theme: "Preach the word (2 Timothy 4:1-2)".

The event was graced by the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council who doubles as the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye; the Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Rt Rev. Dr Lieutenant Colonel Bliss Divine Agbeko; some functionaries of the church, including current and former Synod Committee Executives and Presbytery Chairmen, among others.

The synod is an annual meeting of the leadership of GEC, where Church leaders, including pastors and lay ministers from all GEC churches, come together to take stock of the previous year’s activities and to discuss issues pertaining to the church for the following year.

Messages

Rt Rev. Dzomeku further said that the role of the church was crucial, and, therefore, the need for pastors to be intentional about the messages they preach in order to help shape the lifestyle of their congregation in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity.

“The church is contributing to education, health and many other social interventions, and it is important we ensure our teachings reform our people in order to produce people to contribute positively in building the country,” Rt Rev. Dzomeku added.

The moderator also encouraged the clergy, especially pastors under his leadership, to be committed to teaching the unadulterated word of God to help transform the lives of their flocks as legitimate shepherds of Jesus Christ.

Rt Rev. Dzomeku further called on religious leaders and politicians to be circumspect in their utterances in the lead up to this year’s polls in order not to arouse religious sentiments.

He said utterances that provoked religious and ethnic sentiments were dangerous for the nation's body politics, and could hamper peace and unity before, during and after the general election.

The moderator said that God could choose anyone regardless of their religious affiliation or ethnicity as the President of the country, hence people must vote based on issues rather than religion.

Impact

The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Nyamekye, urged the clergy to consider preaching of God's word as "a momentous enterprise that must be taken serious" to impact the life of  listeners.

He also urged them not to be disappointed by persons who are seemingly uninterested in hearing God's word, while urging churches to adopt decisions and actions that unite them as one body of Christ for the development of the Christian faith.

The chairrman also admonished them to initiate programmes that would rope in more youth to the church.
