The equipment included microscopes, pipettes, burettes, magnifying glasses, electric wares, wires, skeletal and body part dummies.

The beneficiary schools, most of which are in deprived communities are Asuansi Technical Institute, Ekumfi TI Ahmmadiyya SHS, Kwegyir Aggrey, Gomoa SHTS, Mozano SHTS, Mankessim SHTS and Abakrampa SHTS.

The rest are Aburaman SHS, Methodist High SHS, Nsaba Presbyterian SHS and Kwanyako SHS.

Rationale

The Director of CAMFED Ghana, Fairuza Safian, said the fast pace of advancement in the global space required the promotion of STEM education in order to keep up.

She said while the government had made significant efforts to promote STEM education, CAMFED was committed to supporting second cycle schools to prepare students for the global challenge.

Ms Safian, therefore, said the presentation of the equipment was targeted at the most marginalised schools to whip up interest in the teaching and learning of STEM, and to also encourage the students to stay in school and thrive.

She said CAMFED would continue to work with communities and other like-minded partners to support students in skills training and entrepreneurship to enable them to transition into secure livelihood professions.

The Head of Programmes at CAMFED, Clara Valentine Tigenoah, also said that the gesture was aimed at investment in the future of the youth, communities and the nation.

"By equipping our schools with the necessary resources, we empower our students to think bigger, explore and achieve greater.

“The practical experiences facilitated by these equipment will ignite curiosity and critical thinking for the next generation," she added.

The District Director of Education for Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Julliette Dufie Otami, expressed the hope that the equipment would motivate the teachers to give their best.

Appreciation

The beneficiary schools expressed appreciation to CAMFED for the support.

The Vice-Principal of Asuansi Technical Institute, Peter Anim Amoani, said the equipment would promote effective teaching and hands-on learning.

A representative of Nsaba Presbyterian SHS, James Paintsil, said the equipment would sustain interest in the study of STEM in the school.

The Assistant Headmistress of Abakrampa SHTS, Esi Sekyeraa Obeng, also said the equipment had boosted the confidence of the students.

The representative for Kwanyarko SHS, Janice Appiah, said the gesture would facilitate the effective teaching of STEM in the school.
