MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DSTV, has been given a 14-day window to negotiate and agree on reductions in DSTV subscription prices, as the deadline for regulatory suspension of its services expires on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George, who announced the decision in Accra on Friday [September 5, 2025], explained that MultiChoice had finally signalled its readiness to engage in a consultative process with the ministry and the National Communications Authority (NCA).
“Ahead of the expiration of the suspension notice tomorrow, multi-choice yesterday reached out to the Ministry and the regulator, indicating a willingness to comply to address the pricing concerns through a consultative process as was adopted by the Ministry with the MNOs during the data pricing reduction exercise,” he added.
Consequently, the ministry has established a stakeholder committee made up of representatives from the ministry, the NCA, MultiChoice Ghana and MultiChoice Africa.
Mr George will personally chair the committee, which has been given a strict mandate to conclude negotiations and present a price reduction structure for consumers by September 21, 2025.
He also disclosed that the pay-TV provider initially called for a month period for the discussions.
“So let's be clear, they have finally accepted that there will be a reduction. Now they want us to discuss the level of reduction. I believe, as Minister, that we do not need 30 days. 14 days is enough for us to reach this decision, inclusive of weekends.”
“Therefore, the committee has a strict 14-day mandate, inclusive of weekends, to conclude its work and present a suitable price reduction structure for the people of Ghana by September 21, 2025,” he explained.
The minister further disclosed that Canal Plus Group, which is expected to complete its acquisition of MultiChoice Africa by the end of the month, has confirmed that it will honour the outcome of the committee’s work and prioritise Ghana in its post-acquisition strategy.
Meanwhile, the NCA will enforce outstanding fines of GH¢10,000 per day imposed on MultiChoice for failing to provide a cost breakdown of its bouquet pricing for 24 days, in line with the Electronic Communications Act.
MultiChoice Ghana has since reacted to the minister's statement.

Media statement:
MultiChoice sets the record straight on DStv pricing
We have noted the statement made by the Minister for Communications, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George.
We continue to engage with the Minister in a bid to find an amicable solution that is beneficial for all parties involved but does not jeopardise the viability of the DStv service.
We will fully participate in the established Working Committee. However, we wish to clarify that MultiChoice Group has not agreed to a price reduction.
