The revision is open to Ghanaians who have attained 18 years since the main registration exercise in 2012, and eligible Ghanaians who were above 18 years during the main registration but could not register. It was previously scheduled for June 20 -29, 2014 but was postponed indefinately

A statement signed by a Deputy Chairman of the EC, Mr Amadu Sulley, said the registration would take place at a designated registration centre in every electoral area.

The EC advised prospective applicants to look out for the registration centres in their electoral areas from the newspapers and also listen to the local announcement in their area for the place designated as a registration centre.

“Applicants are reminded that they will be required to show identification documents as proof of eligibility, such as National Identification Card, Ghanaian Passport, Drivers Licence, or an old voter ID Card,” the statement said.

Eligible applicants

It stated that eligible applicants who did not have any of the identification documents mentioned might find two Ghanaians who are registered voters to guarantee their registration by completing a voter registration identification guarantee form.

The statement appealed to the public to support the EC in ensuring that unqualified people and minors did not get their names on the voters register by volunteering information on such applicants.

It said the information might be provided by filing a voter registration challenge form against the registration of such individuals.

All challenges will be investigated by the District Registration Review Committees in the respective districts.

The statement urged all eligible applicants and the public to take note of the new arrangement and act accordingly.

The commission also announced that it would hold an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Friday, July 18, 2014 to discuss the revision of the voters register, the report on inspection of political party offices, proposals for reforms submitted by political parties and civil society, and carry out any other business.
