The impunity with which a section of society is plundering the land for gold and thereby destroying our water bodies has stirred a group of media houses and groups to form a coalition to stop the devastation.

At the Alisa Hotel in Accra at 10 a.m. today, the media partners, including the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) and the New Times Corporation, will launch the media coalition against galamsey.

Other partners are the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), the Private Newspaper Publishers Association (PRINPAG) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

The coalition is seeking the support of the public in the fight against illegal mining, as the forces behind galamsey are very powerful.

As part of the campaign to prick the conscience of the people to the widespread devastation of vegetation and water bodies, we bring you a pictorial presentation of the illegal activities.
