Egbazo citizens raise funds for teachers’ quarters

The chiefs and people of Egbazo, near Half Assini in the Western Region, have organised a fund-raising ceremony for the construction of teachers’ quarters in the area.

The initiative formed part of activities at the annual "Egbazo De Me Nu" festival in the area. It was on the theme "Let's Unite and Build."

The chief of Egbazo, Nana Ebate V, said during such festivals, the community selected a particular development project for implementation by the people.

 

He said for this year, the people chose the construction of a teachers’ quarters as part of efforts to motivate teachers to give their best.

According to the chief, teachers posted to the town do not often stay due to the lack of accommodation and said the situation had impacted negatively on quality education delivery in the area.

Donation

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dan Borsor Group of Companies, Mr Dan Borsor, donated 100 bags of cement towards the construction of the project.

He also presented a cheque for unspecified amount to ensure the early completion of the project.

Mr Borsor promised additional 200 bags of cement in two instalments provided the first allocation was put to judicious use.

He explained that the donation formed part of his contribution towards the delivery of efective teaching and learning in the area.

Support

The Jomoro District Chief Executive, Mr George William Somiah, lauded the initiative since it would help promote quality education in the district.

The assembly donated 50 bags of cement and GH¢300.00 towards the realisation of the project.

Present at the ceremony included Ms Samiah Yaba Nkrumah of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Mr David Cobbinah Brigidi, a businessman, and  Mr Paul Essien, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for the area. 

Appreciation

Nana Ebate expressed appreciation to Mr Borsor, the assembly and other philantropists for their various forms of support and appealed to other organisations and individuals to also contribute their quota towards the development of the area. 

“We also want to thank the assembly for rehabilitating the one- and-a-half-kilometre road from Ahobre Junction to Egbazo,” the chief added.
