Ejisu/Juaben Assembly supports persons with disability
The Ejisu/Juaben Municipal Assembly has disbursed a total of GH¢22,760 to 100 people with disability as their share of the assembly’s Common Fund.
It was aimed at improving the living condition of people with disabilities in the municipality at a ceremony at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region.
In all, 55 of the physically-challenged received a total of GH¢12,500 for income generation activities, while 30 of them received a total of 6,400 as support to pursue their education. Fifteen of them also received a total of GHc900 for health care while GHc1,660.00 was also presented to support the Disability Project, which is being undertaken by the less-privileged in the Ejisu/Juaben Municipality.
The Chief Executive of the Ejisu/Juaben Municipal Assembly, Mr Kwaku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, said the disbursement of the funds was in line with the constitutional requirement of ensuring the creation of equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
He said it was against this background that the government found it expedient to ensure that People with disabilities (PWDs) got their fair share of the national cake by, among other things, establishing the disability fund as provided by law.
Mr Yamoah Ponko said the government was committed to promoting and protecting the interest of every Ghanaian, irrespective of his or her social, religious, economic and ethic status.
He said the government would continue to assist the vulnerable to create a level playing field to ensure that PWDs were better placed to harness the best out of the Better Ghana agenda.
The Ejisu/Juaben Municipal Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mr Francis Asobayire, echoed the commitment of the assembly to support the development of the people with disability in the municipality to enable them to contribute their quota towards national development.
He advised them to make good use of the support to reflect positively in their lives.
