Energy Commission promotes efficient energy use
The Energy Commission has outlined measures to promote efficient energy use to help businesses reduce cost in the wake of the current power crisis.
The measures, according to the Director of Technical Regulation of the commission, Dr Nii Darko Asante, would focus mainly on educating Ghanaian businesses to move away from conventional lighting to the new light emitting diode (LED) lighting which has the potential to save cost.
Speaking at a forum in Accra, Dr Asante said the commission had also drafted a new legislative instrument which was currently with the Attorney-General’s Department to help regulate lighting in the country.
The forum, which was organised by Philip Lighting in Accra on theme: “Sustainable businesses through the energy crisis”, brought together both public and private companies to deliberate on the energy challenges facing their businesses.
It also highlighted the role that the LED technology could play in improving energy efficiency.
The forum was used to introduce a series of Philip LED lighting products designed to support businesses in the country.
Some of the LED lighting products displayed at the forum were CoreLine recessed, smartBright Troffer, SmartBay and Green Perform HighBay.
Energy efficiency
According to Dr Asante, the commission was devoted to ensuring that Ghana’s energy resources were utilised sustainably and proficiently to enhance development.
He urged Ghanaians to move away from excessive energy use and contribute their quota to address the energy crisis, adding, “Ghanaians must change their behaviour when it comes to energy conservation.”
