New NPA board inaugurated

The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated the newly constituted Board of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

The minister, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to tighter regulation and improved governance of Ghana’s petroleum downstream industry.

Mr Jinapor speaking at the swearing in event stressed the importance of effective oversight across the petroleum value chain, noting the sector’s pivotal role in Ghana’s economic development.

“Given the complexity of operations and the wide range of service providers involved, the regulator must be vigilant, proactive, and transparent,” the Minister said.

He cited key challenges facing the industry—including fuel smuggling, adulteration, tax evasion, and product dumping—as urgent issues requiring enhanced enforcement and innovation from the NPA.

Mr Jinapor revealed that the Petroleum Downstream Sector Reforms Committee (PDSRC) had recently submitted its report to the Ministry. The committee was tasked with recommending policy reforms to boost efficiency, competitiveness, and sustainability in the downstream sector.

The Minister pledged to carefully review the committee’s proposals and work collaboratively with the new Board, the NPA, and private stakeholders to ensure long-term viability and investor confidence.

“Full enforcement of regulations and licensing standards across the value chain must be a priority,” he said, urging the Board to embrace transparency, Ghanaian participation, and digital innovation.
