EP church moderator decries politics of insults

The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, Rt Rev. Dr Seth Agidi, has expressed concern about the political polarisation in the country, characterised by insults and humiliation of public office holders.

He has, therefore, urged religious leaders to identify and engage with their members to desist from such misconducts. 

Rt Rev. Dr Agidi, who was speaking at Tema during the ordination of newly trained pastors into the Evangelical Presbyterian faith, said religion was a sacred institution that had the tendency of influencing the desired change required of promoting decency and sanity in society. 

Seven pastors were among this year’s batch of students who graduated from the Trinity Theological Seminary at Legon.

Intensify crusade

The moderator further entreated religious organisations in the country to intensify their crusade against the canker of lawlessness and moral decay in the Ghanaian society.

“We need to passionately demonstrate our religious responsibility to use our pulpits and other platforms at are disposals to nip in the bud this rising societal evil that is threatening the peace, stability and development our the country,” he noted.

Rt Rev. Dr Agidi reminded the newly trained pastors of their mission of serving as faithful stewards of Christ with values of integrity while responding to the needs of the disadvantaged in the communities in which they will operate.

The President of Trinity Theological Seminary, Legon, Prof. J.O.Y Mantey, admonished the graduates not to submit to temptations and fall prey to the manipulations of the devil but to serve in a dedicated spirit of discipleship in accordance with the great commission.

Collaboration with police

At the ceremony, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr John Kudalor, lauded the role of religious bodies in ensuring peace in the country.

He said his engagements with religious leaders and chiefs in many parts of the country indicated their preparedness to effectively collaborate with the police service in its operation.

Mr Kudalor entreated various political parties and the public to have trust and confidence in the police service as a reputable institution capable of delivering its mandatory responsibilities.

The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Odamtten, commended the E.P. Church for its social interventions in the country, particularly in the areas of education and health.

The E.P. Church also used the occasion to honour the IGP for his meritorious services in ensuring peace and security in the country.
