The three-day event is showcasing modern technologies and solutions for clean energy and environment from countries of best practice.

More than 53 exhibitors from six countries, majority of them from Germany, are participating in the event, organised by the delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Ghana, in collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung and giz.

Other exhibitors are from Ghana, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Egypt.

It is the third edition since the inception of WACEE in 2012.

An open dialogue on regulatory frameworks that need reforms to facilitate investments in the energy sector will be held as part of the exhibition.

It will be on the theme, “Renewable energy and environment: Advancing policy and business collaboration”.

The conference will also discuss environmental protection, waste management and renewable energy development.

The 2015 WACEE is featuring an official German pavilion, dubbed, “Made in Germany” Pavilion, with 21 exhibitors sponsored by the Federal German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, in cooperation with the Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the German Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Rudiger John, said Germany had the technology, experience and solutions to help Ghana produce sustainable and reliable energy.

He suggested that Ghana should pursue stand-alone projects in communities, homes and public installations to reduce the load on the national grid.

He noted that with the large amount of sunshine in Ghana and West Africa, there were many opportunities for solar energy generation.

“We are also looking for local companies to partner with and finance because we believe our investments must also create jobs. So if we find reliable local companies we can cooperate with them to execute specific initiatives and projects,” he  stated.

MESTI

The Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Mr Akwasi Opong-Fosu, in a speech read on his behalf, said Ghana had taken a number of initiatives to deal with negative changes in the environment.

As part of the effort, he said, a National Climate Change Policy was launched last year to facilitate and guide the sustainability of the environment.

The minister urged participants to provide recommendations for the financing framework for funding clean energy and appropriate renewable energy schemes.
