He, pleaded not guilty to the three charges.

The court, presided over Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy, granted him bail in the sum of GH¢15,000.00 with two sureties to be justified with two passport pictures each.

The court ordered the investigator to keep the items in his custody until the adjourned date.

ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah told the court that the complainant, Benjamin Olesu-Adjei, is an insurer and the accused   a farmer; were both resident in Nuaso, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo.

He said on March 31, 2016 at about 4:00 a.m., Olesu-Adjei had a phone call from one Alove that his chemical shop was ajar.

The complainant quickly rushed to the store and saw that the padlock to the door was damaged and a flat screen TV valued GH¢700.00, Compaq laptop valued GH¢1,300.00, one multi-decoder and remote valued GH¢350.00, an HP laptop, a pen drive valued GH¢40.00, one power bank valued at GH¢70.00, a cash of GH¢2,500.00 and a cheque for GH¢100.00 bearing the name of the Manyakpongunor Presbyterian Church.

The prosecutor said Olesu-Adjei had a tip-off that it was Martey who stole the items and the cash.

Based on that information, he reported the case to the police.

Martey was consequently arrested and detained.

ASP Yeboah said during police interrogation Martey said he never caused any damage to the padlocks of the door.

He said on March 30, 2016 at about 11:30 a.m. he was from Manya Kpongunor heading towards his house and when he got to the Y-junction, where the complainant’s chemical shop is located, he saw two young men that he could not identify trying to carry the stolen items away.

Martey told the police he rather shouted ‘’thieves, thieves’’ and they bolted and left the stolen items behind.

He said he then carried the items away.

The prosecutor said the tv set, the laptops, one decoder and the remote, and cash of GH¢800.00 were retrieved from Martey.
