
Fire destroys 8 shops at Tema Community 1 Market
A fire outbreak at the Tema Community One Market on Thursday morning destroyed eight shops.
The incident occurred behind the ABSA Bank.
Out of the eight affected shops, three shops (two tailoring shops and one beautician shop) were completely burnt.
Two tailoring shops were partially burnt while three others had their ceiling and contents partially affected by the fire.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who were called in managed to prevent several adjoining shops from being burnt.
Speaking to The Mirror, the GNFS's Tema Regional Public Relations Officer, Ebenezer K.Yenzu, said a call was received at 2.34 a.m., and two fire tenders were dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze.
He said the team arrived at the scene at 2.41 a.m. and brought the fire under control at 3.18 a.m., adding that the fire was extinguished at 3.58 a.m. with no casualties recorded.
He said authorities were yet to establish the cause of the fire.
