Fire destroys over 500 wooden structures in Tema Industrial Area

A number of wooden structures have been destroyed after a massive fire swept through a settlement behind Ferro Fabrik Ltd in the Tema Heavy Industrial Area.

The blaze, which reportedly started late on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, reduced multiple structures used for both domestic and commercial purposes to ashes.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had brought the fire under control. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

According to the Tema Regional Command of the GNFS, the service swiftly responded to a distress call at 11:52 p.m. regarding the blaze. The first fire appliance, dispatched from the Tema Industrial Area Fire Station and led by ADO I Orlando Adablanu, arrived on site at 11:58 p.m.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control by 1:59 a.m. on Thursday, 19 June 2025, and fully extinguished it by 5:43 a.m.

To support the operation, six additional fire engines were deployed from the Tema Metro, Motorway, Ashaiman, Newtown, Devtraco, and BOST Fire Stations.

The GNFS indicated that its personnel managed to salvage an unspecified number of wooden structures and prevented the fire from spreading to Ferro Fabrik Ltd and other adjoining factories.

However, it confirmed that over 500 wooden structures and their contents were completely destroyed by the inferno.

The operation was supervised by the Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick Sallah, along with other senior officers and partner agencies.

Investigation underway

The GNFS has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

When the Daily Graphic visited the scene on Thursday morning, several affected residents were seen lamenting their loss.

One of the victims, Ben Adjei, said he had left for a night shift when he received a distress call about the fire.

“I lost everything in my wooden structure, which served as my home,” he said solemnly.
